EATON SPD series surge protector

Product basic positioning and core advantages

Product attributes: Eaton’s SPD series is a surge protector (SPD) designed specifically for electrical distribution equipment. It adopts the core technology of thermal protection metal oxide varistor (MOV) and can be integrated into various electrical components or independently installed on the side of Eaton, providing industrial and commercial electrical systems with surge resistance and ensuring safe operation of equipment.

Core strengths

Wide range adaptation: surge current capacity covers 50-400kA, compatible with 120V-600V single/three-phase multi voltage system (star, triangle, high leg triangle);

Multi functional options: Four functional packages meet the needs of different scenarios, covering everything from basic protection to intelligent monitoring;

High compliance: Passed authoritative certifications such as UL 1449 5th edition and NFPA 780, meeting RoHS environmental requirements;

Long life guarantee: 10-year standard warranty, extended to 15 years after registration, with a rated short-circuit current of 200kA and outstanding stability.

(2) Voltage adaptation and protection level (VPR)

The SPD series provides precise voltage protection levels (VPR) for different voltage standards and installation methods (direct bus installation/circuit breaker interface installation). The core examples are as follows:

Voltage code installation method protection mode VPR (V)

240S (120/240 single-phase) direct busbar installation (50kA) L-N: 500, L-G: 1000, N-G: 500, L-L: 1000

480Y (277/480 three-phase star type) direct busbar installation (120-200kA) L-N: 900, L-G: 1000, N-G: 900, L-L: 1800

240D (240 three-phase triangle) circuit breaker interface installation (50kA) L-G: 1200, L-L: 1200

600Y (347/600 three-phase star type) circuit breaker interface installation (400kA) L-N: 1500, L-G: 1500, N-G: 1200, L-L: 2500

Installation and Display Options

Installation method

Integrated: Pre installed inside Eaton distribution panels (PRL1a/2a/3a/3e, etc.), switchgear, motor control centers, automatic transfer switches, busbar plugs, and other equipment;

Side mounted: Independently installed outside electrical equipment, suitable for non Eaton equipment or modification scenarios.

Display and remote functions

Local display: The basic package includes dual color indicator lights (normal/fault), while the Power Xpert SPD features a three color indicator light and residual protection percentage display;

Remote display: models with “B” at the tail end need to be ordered, paired with dedicated cables (4/8/12 feet, model SPDRDCAB04, etc.) or remote display kits (model SPDRDKIT04, etc.), supporting status viewing during embedded device installation;

Intelligent Communication: The Power Xpert SPD is equipped with RJ45 Ethernet ports and supports Modbus TCP/IP and BACnet/IP protocols. It can remotely access web interfaces, configure parameters, view surge logs and classifications with timestamps.

Compliance certification and quality assurance

Core certifications: UL 1449 5th edition, UL 1283 7th edition, Canadian CSA C22.2 series standards, PT. 1 cybersecurity standard (UL 2900-1), ICES and FCC Part 15 Subpart B;

Compliance standards: Meet UL 96A (Surge Protection for Distribution Equipment) and NFPA 780 (Lightning Protection Systems) requirements (must comply with NFPA Table 4.20.4 Maximum Allowable VPR);

Warranty and Maintenance: 10-year standard warranty, extended to 15 years after registration on Eaton’s official website; The device comes pre installed with 18 inch # 10 AWG wire and supports 30-12 AWG copper wire connections, with terminal torque of 5-7 lb in.
