MEGGITT VM600 machinery protection system (MPS)

The VM600 Mechanical Protection System (MPS) launched by Meggitt is based on a 19 “rack (1U or 6U), consisting of MPC4/AMC8 processing cards and corresponding IOC4T/IOC8T input/output cards. It supports monitoring parameters such as vibration and temperature, and has functions such as alarm threshold setting, hot plugging, and network communication. It is suitable for rotating machinery protection in industries such as power generation and petrochemicals. The manual also covers key content such as system installation, configuration, maintenance, and safe operation.

Core components of the system

rack type

ABE04x: 19 “x 6U rack, supports up to 21 VME slots, can install dual RPS6U power supplies, compatible with MPS and CMS hybrid configurations

ABE056:19 “x 1U slimline rack, supporting 1-2 processing cards, compatible with RPS1U power supply

Core card components

MPC4 series: mechanical protection card, including standard version, independent circuit version, SIL safety version, supporting 4 measurement channels+2 speed channels, only MPC4SIL without VME interface

AMC8 card: analog monitoring card, supporting 8 measurement channels, focusing on quasi-static parameters such as temperature and flow rate

Supporting IO cards: IOC4T (MPC4 specific), IOC8T (AMC8 specific), providing terminal wiring and relay output

Auxiliary cards: RLC16 (16 way relay), IRC4 (8-way intelligent relay), CPUM/IOCN (network control card, supporting Ethernet/RS-485 communication)

power module

RPS6U: ABE04x dedicated, divided into 300W (old version)/330W (new version), supports AC/DC input, and can have dual power redundancy

RPS1U: ABE056 dedicated, supports AC/DC input, built-in power detection relay

System functions and features

Monitoring and processing capability

Monitoring parameters: vibration (absolute/relative), temperature, pressure, speed, eccentricity, shaft expansion, etc

Processing modes: 18 core modes (such as broadband absolute bearing vibration, narrowband fixed frequency monitoring, etc.), MPC4SIL only supports some modes (see Table 7-1)

Rectification methods: RMS, mean, peak, peak to peak, etc., supporting analog/digital integration

Alarm and protection

Alarm level: Alert+/-, Danger+/- four threshold levels, supporting 0.1-5.0 times adaptive coefficient

Alarm configuration: 3-second delay and hysteresis value can be set, supporting logical combination (AND/OR/voting logic)

Special functions: Danger Bypass, Trip Multiply, Channel Suppression

Communication and Configuration

Independent rack: configured card by card via RS-232

Network rack: Ethernet “one click configuration” is achieved through CPUM/IOCN, supporting Modbus TCP/RTU

Data output: 4-20mA current signal or 0-10V voltage signal, supporting raw signal output (BNC interface)

Safety and reliability

Protective features: grounding protection, overcurrent protection, anti-static (ESD) protection

Hot swappable: Supports hot swapping of cards, without interrupting system operation during replacement

Redundant design: dual power redundancy, external main power redundancy

Installation and configuration specifications

Installation requirements

Ventilation: Reserve ≥ 50mm space above and below the ABE04x rack, reserve ≥ 20mm for ABE056, and forced ventilation is required in high temperature environments

Slot allocation: MPC4/AMC8 needs to be installed aligned with the corresponding IO card, and RPS6U occupies 3 consecutive slots

Wiring: Cable cross-section ≤ 1.5mm ², must comply with national electrical regulations, and the rack must be grounded

Configuration points

Card code: Rear card passes through the micro switch to set a 4-digit binary slot code. If there is an error, the SLOT ERROR LED red light will light up

Grounding options: Supports chassis grounding and VME grounding connection, IOC4T provides sensor shielding grounding configuration

Software support: VM600 MPS1/MPS2 software is required, and IRC4 requires a dedicated configuration tool

Maintenance and Support

Troubleshooting: locate faults through LED indicator status (DIAG/STOP, channel LED) and support BITE self-test

Long term storage: The power module needs to be removed, and the storage temperature range is -20 ℃~+60 ℃

Service support: Products need to be purchased from the original factory or authorized distributors to ensure quality assurance, and provide scrap disposal guidelines

Applicable scenarios

Industry sectors: power generation, petroleum, petrochemicals, marine, etc

Monitoring objects: rotating machinery such as turbines, generators, compressors, etc

Core value: Prevent equipment failures and ensure the safe operation of machinery
