Description of Hardware Functions, Pins, and Jumpers for Three Board Cards

1. cPCI-3534 (3RS232+single isolation differential port)

Channel division A/B/C is a complete modem RS232 (TX/RX/RTS/CTS/DSR/DRR/DCT/RI full handshake); D channel hardware dial-up switch RS422/RS485, independent 2500VDC isolated ground.

Jumper configuration

SW1-1: Card number recognition, ON=Card number 1 (COM starting number first), OFF=Card number 2; The dual card system must be turned on and off to avoid port conflicts.

JP1: RS422 terminal resistor; JP2: RS485 terminal resistor, short circuited to match the long line impedance.

Interface definition: DB37 front-end and cPCI J2 back-end backplane with two types of output lines; Equipped with DB9/DB25 split cable, distinguish between RS232 full signal and differential D+/D – signal.

2. cPCI-3544 (four-way fully isolated RS422/485)

Dialing and Jumping

Channel A~H consists of eight pure RS232 channels, all with complete modem hardware flow control (RTS/CTS, software Xon/Xoff). The board has no isolation, and an external C588XB module can be selected for isolation.

Hardware recognition JP1 jumper distinguishes between 1/2 cards, with staggered settings for dual card systems.

The pins, cables, and protocol are completely consistent with the front DB37/DB62, only changing the position of the chassis outlet to adapt to enclosed front devices without wiring space.

5. Definition of Universal Serial Port Signal

RS232: TX transmission, RX reception, RTS/CTS hardware handshake, DSR/DTR/DCD/RI modulation and demodulation, SG signal ground, FG chassis ground.

RS422: TX ±, RX ± differential point-to-point, independently isolated ground.

RS485: D+/D – half duplex bus differential signal.

Hardware disassembly and installation specifications

1. Mandatory requirements for unpacking and anti-static measures

Use grounding anti-static pads and anti-static wristbands throughout the entire process. After the human body comes into contact with the metal of the chassis and releases static electricity, remove the board.

Only hold the edge of the board and do not touch the chip or pins; Open the box and check if the IC socket is loose. If it is damaged during transportation, it is strictly prohibited to turn on the power.

2. Installation steps

Turn off the power supply of the industrial computer host and all peripherals;

Select an idle 3U cPCI slot and set the card identification dialing code in advance based on the number of multiple cards;

Insert the board smoothly and secure the panel screws;

Connect the DB distribution cable (front) or rear backplane cable.

Supporting operating systems

DOS、Windows3.1/95/98/NT/2000/XP、Linux、QNX、SCO Open Server

1. Windows NT installation process

Go to the control panel – Network Adapter for the administrator account, select the manufacturer disk installation;

CD drive model directory, customizable COM port starting number (default COM3);

Dual cards must be jumper with one ON and one OFF, and the ON card is assigned a front COM number; Old drivers need to be uninstalled before installation, and will take effect after installation and restart.

2. Windows 95/98

The system plug and play automatically recognizes hardware, loads drivers according to instructions, dials to determine COM port order, and shares IRQ resources.

3. Windows 2000/XP

The system automatically detects hardware and specifies the corresponding CD drive directory; 3534/3538 rely on jumper wires to distinguish between fixed COM segments of card numbers, while 3544 relies on SW dialing for differentiation.

4. Linux system drivers

3534/3538: Extract source code package, compile kernel module, run Install script to install;

3544: Extract the source code of PCI3544, execute the 3544_inst.pl script, and specify the number of installation cards and device master number.

5. Description of supporting tools

Only cPCI-3544 provides AdlComSet.exe visual configuration software, and the document comes with a screenshot of the tool interface:

Main interface: Display all recognized cards and corresponding COM segments;

Port settings page: Modify the 422/485 mode for each channel and set the boot save configuration.

CPCI-3534/3538 does not have a dedicated configuration tool, and the system recognizes it as a standard system COM port for direct use.

6. Application examples

The driver CD comes with sample programs for reading and writing various system serial ports; DOS only supports 3534/35383544 without DOS development libraries.
