ABB ACS800 EconoPACK+ IGBT modules to TIM foil

Overview of Changes

TIM foil, also known as graphite sheet, is used to replace the original thermal grease.

Advantages compared to thermal conductive silicone grease

Easy installation;

Long term heat transfer performance is more stable;

Improved durability under cyclic operating conditions.

Functional use: TIM foil is used to conduct the heat generated by IGBT to the heat sink.

Mixed compatibility

IGBT with thermal conductive silicone grease and TIM foil can be mixed inside the device simultaneously;

In the R8i parallel module system, it is also allowed to use silicone grease or TIM foil for different modules separately.

The complete installation steps for TIM foil are provided with the documentation accompanying the TIM IGBT spare parts kit.

Time nodes for mass production of TIM foil switching among various models (whole machine production)

Effective date of model switching

ACS800-104 R7i&R8i (Industrial) 2022-01-01

ACS800-104LC R7i&R8i (Industrial and Wind Power) 2024-01-01

ACS800‑04 R7 & R8 2024‑01‑22

ACS800-104 R8i (Wind Power) 2024-03-01

All ACS800 EconoPACK+module repairs completed by ABB DSW factory are uniformly carried out using TIM foil.

Change of spare parts kit

IGBT spare parts kit update: Remove thermal grease and replace with TIM foil.

Switching rhythm: Gradually switch in the second quarter of 2024, prioritizing the consumption of old IGBT kits with silicone grease in inventory.

The document lists a batch of updated IGBT module spare part numbers, including a complete set of spare parts for FS series IGBT with AGDR driver board; The part number 3AXD50000948185 is a specialized TIM foil version spare parts kit.

TIM foil can be ordered separately:

Part number 3AXD50000724666, compatible with ACS800-104 (LC) R7i and R8i models.

Selection tip: It is necessary to confirm the correct TIM foil kit in the recommended spare parts section of Drives Installed Base and refresh the page to obtain the latest spare parts recommendations.
