OMRON Z500 high-precision contour measurement system

The product manual of Omron Z500 high-precision contour measurement system adopts the original line laser+2D CCD measurement principle, which can instantly measure the contour of the workpiece without moving objects or sensors. It supports 8 measurements such as height, segment difference, width, and edge position, and provides three measuring heads SW2T/SW6/SW17 and two controllers MC10E/MC15E. It is equipped with a 5.5-inch LCD monitor and operation console, achieving a maximum resolution of 0.25 μ m, ± 0.1% F.S. linearity, 9.94ms sampling period, meeting the high-precision online detection of PCB solder joints, connector pins, rivets, door seams, etc. It has automatic light intensity control, 4 display screens, 16 scene storage, laser level coverage Class 2/3B, and protection up to IP66.

Product positioning and core principles

Z500 is an Omron high-precision non-contact contour measurement system that uses the line beam method

Wide line laser irradiation of the measured object → 2D SW-CCD receiving reflected light → direct output of 2D contour

Advantages: No need to move workpieces/sensors, eliminate motion errors, reduce system costs, improve accuracy and speed

Key questions and answers

Question 1: What are the core advantages of Z500 compared to traditional displacement sensors?

answer:

No need to move the workpiece or sensor, complete contour measurement in one line scan

Higher accuracy (up to 0.25 μ m), without errors caused by motion

Faster speed (9.94ms sampling), suitable for online high-speed detection

Lower system cost, no need for complex handling of motion mechanisms and PCs

One measurement can simultaneously calculate 8 parameters, with high functional integration

Question 2: What is the main difference between the three sensors (SW2T/SW6/SW17) of Z500? What are the three criteria for selection?

Answer: The core difference lies in measuring distance, range, and laser level:

SW2T: Close range (5.2mm), small range (± 0.8mm), Class 2 safe laser

SW6: Medium distance (20mm), medium range (± 5mm)

SW17: Long distance (50/100mm), large range (± 20mm)

Key indicators for selection:

Working distance from sensor to workpiece

Required height/contour measurement range

Is the on-site safety level allowed for Class 3B laser

Question 3: In what ways can the measurement results of the Z500 system be output? What interfaces do they correspond to?

Answer: Supports 4 output modes:

Switching output: Terminal block DO0~DO19, determine OK/NG

Analog output: ± 5V or 4-20mA, resolution 0.25mV/0.4 μ A

Digital communication: RS-232C, sending measurement values

Video output: BNC interface, connected to a monitor for real-time display of contours and data
